There were a number of projects throughout my course work in ECI 524 that supported the idea of global citizenship. The idea of global citizenship goes hand in hand with promoting civic involvement with my students. Seeing yourself as part of a global society opens your eyes and heart to the issues facing fellow global citizens. Follow the links below to experience some of the assignments that have led me to have a greater awareness of global citizenship and the important role it plays in the classroom.

Three countries that consistently stand out as dominant leaders in the modern world are The United States, China, and Japan. Their strong economies, consistent advances in technologies, and dominant military organizations are highly influential in the world in which we live. To stay on top of the world in these areas, they each must continue to develop influential world leaders. The role of a country’s educational system plays a large role in this responsibility. The following is a comparative study on the educational systems of The United States, China, and Japan. Focusing on the following areas: a.) extent of state support for education, b.) curriculum, c.) standard forms of instruction, and d.) aims of educational system, will give us a clearer picture as to how each country is molding the future leaders of our world.

The Global Education Collaborative is an online social   networking site for educators interested in global learning. I published a number of blog posts on this site for ECI 524. My post recommmending the website, www.ncintheworld.org, was even featured on the site's home page! This online networking site is a great resource for me, as I seek to engage students in global learning and civic involvement.

I used www.freerice.com in ECI 543 while tutoring a struggling reader. My student needed help with vocabulary development, so this site was a perfect reward at the end of a tutoring session. He loved watching the bowl of rice fill up as he answered each question  correctly. Knowing that each correct answer provided more rice for people in need, gave him even more motivation to focus on getting the right answer!
